Astonishing X-Men (Marvel)
Writer: Joss Whedon
Artist: John Cassady
This comic book has Kitty Pryde *and* Emma Frost... like interacting with each other, and it's written by Joss Whedon, how can it not be great? My only major problems is that the comics are delayed waaay too often and the stories are too slow (the last 8 issues have taken place within 24 hours. The writing is great, the art is great, also Laura Martin is a great colorist.
Black Panther (Marvel)
Writer: Reginald Hudlin
Pencilers: Marcus To, Koi turnbull
This comic isn't all that great and the art leaves something to be desired but it's readable and the last several issues have been part of the Civil War crossover.
Daredevil (Marvel)
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Pencilers: Michael Lark, Stefano Gaudiano
I didn't get into Daredevil until a few months ago and I read every issue of the current volumn in 2 days. Not only has the writing been fantastic (Brian Michael Bendis, David Mack, Ed Brubaker) but the art's been the best in marvel for years (David Mack, Alex Maleev), it's also introduced some great new characters like Angela del Toro and Maya Lopez
Exiles (Marvel)
Writer: Chris Claremont
Penciler: Paul Pellitier
Chris Claremont's managed to turn a mediocre comic book into a terrible comic book and all it took was 1 issue!!! He's so far written 2 issues and I am far from impressed, I'm going to give it a few more issues before I give it up completely
Fables (DC Vertigo)
I actually haven't read this comic in a few months, I'm 5 or 6 months behind so I don't actually know who does this comic right now. It was really really really good until about 2 or 3 story arcs ago which was *really* bad, so I stopped reading until it was over. And well, it's over, I just haven't gotten around to picking it back up again.
Ms. Marvel (Marvel)
Writer: Brian Reed
Pencilers: Roberto de la Torre, Patrick Zircher
I never really liked Carol Danvers until Civil War, I think I love her so much now becoz she's a bitch... I like that in my comic book characters. Brian Reed is a great upcoming comic book writer, I can't wait until his Spider-Woman series comes out. For this comic book, I can't wait until the Ms. Marvel/Arachne smackdown, which is in like 2 months. Carol so screwed over Julia and I can't wait for Julia to get revenge.
New Avengers (Marvel)
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Leinil Francis Yu
Honestly, I have no clue what people see in Leinil Yu's art. I think it's awful. I wonder how many issues are we going to be stuck with him drawing New Avengers. Brian Michael Bendis on the other hand is awesome. It's great to see the return of Maya Lopez... the New Avengers left her in Japan many issues ago and it's great that we get to see what happened to her. Rumor has it her replacements identity will be revealed in 3 months.
New Avengers: Illuminati (Marvel)
Writers: Brian Michael Bendis, Brian Reed
Penciler: Jim Cheung
I think it's time for Brian Michael Bendis to stop holding Brian Reed's hand. On another note, only 1 issue of this mini series has come out and I don't really remember much about it... which means it was that good (or bad) or else I would have remembered more.
New Excalibur (Marvel)
Writer: Chris Claremont
Penciler: Scot Eaton
I'm actually afraid of Chris Claremont returning... when he returns to comics, he tends to ruin them. Initial starts are pretty good but returning after another writer has left is a problem. This comics (both Chris Claremont's initial run and Frank Tieri's 7 issue run) were pretty good, let's hope Mr. Claremont's return doesn't screw anything up
New X-Men (Marvel)
Writers: Craig Kyle, Chris Yost
Penciler: Paco Medina
Craig Kyle and Chris Yost have got to be the greatest writing team out there. The fact that they're television writers and have never really written comic books make them a surprising new talent. Since they took over writing at issue 20 they've put the New X-Men thru a woodchipper in every issue and I LOVE IT!!! I'm honestly surprised any characters are still alive :). My biggest problem with this comic is Paco Medina. New X-Men had some great art (Randy Green, Michael Ryan, Mark Brooks) and then Paco Medina?!?!?! Marvel should bury Paco Medina under whatever rock they found him. The current art in this book is so bad that if I didn't really really like the writing, I wouldn't read it at all, coz the art is so bad. I mean, yeah, Paco Medina can draw better than me... but that's not really a compliment since I can barely draw a straight line with a ruler.
Nextwave: Agents of HATE (Marvel)
Writer: Warren Ellis
Penciler: Stuart Immonen
Warren Ellis strikes again!!! Warren Ellis can do no wrong (well, except for X-Force). This comic book is hilarious!!! And sadly, the last issue just came out. This isn't really part of the comic but I thought I'd point out that the letters page is called "HATE Mail" which is just gold. Dude, how many comic books do you know have its own theme song???
Silent War (Marvel)
Writer: David Hine
Artist: Frazer Irving
The first issue of this was kind of a let down. I had been looking forward to this mini series for months and the first issue just wasn't all that great. I really hope this picks up and gets better.
Thunderbolts (Marvel)
Writer: Warren Ellis
Artist: Mike Deodato
Dude, this has got to be the best new creative team at Marvel. The last 2 issues have just been awesome!!! I can't wait for the next 4 issues of the current story arc ("Faith in Monsters"). Warren Ellis proves once again he can do no wrong (except, of course, X-Force). And I just love Mike Deodato's art. I think it captures the grim and gritty Thunderbolts perfectly. I hope Marvel holds onto this creative team for many many issues. I keep thinking I'm the only Thunderbolts fan out there but the comic's lasted 111 issues so far, someone else there *must* like it... I just haven't met them yet.
Ultimate Fantastic Four (Ultimate Marvel)
This is another comic I actually haven't read in a few months. I have no clue who the current creative team is and I have no clue what's going on. But it was really good before I stopped reading it. I don't recall why I stopped reading it.
Ultimate Power (Ultimate Marvel)
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Penciler: Greg Land
Not only is this the first ever complete Ultimate Marvel Crossover (meaning it features the characters from all 4 ongoing Ultimate titles), it's also the first crossover between the Ultimate Marvel Universe (Earth-1610) and an another already established universe (Earth-31916, first appeared in Supreme Power #1 in 2003). So far it's been awesome (I think I've been using that word too many times in this post). And there's still 6 more to go.
Ultimates 2 (Ultimate Marvel)
Writer: Mark Millar
Penciler: Bryan Hitch
This is the type of comic book that would be a *lot* more popular if it were released regularly. The most recent issue came out in September... the next issue was just pushed from MARCH to APRIL!!! This comic book is one of the best out there when it can actually be released!!!
Uncanny X-Men (Marvel)
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Penciler: Clayton Henry
Man, this current story arc majorly sucks and is taking forever!!! I keep reading it every month on the off chance this who "Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire" gets any better... 9 issues down and 3 to go and it's not improving. I only have to suffer thru it for 3 more issues before they finally get to a new story... which is hopefully better than this one. Too bad Ed Brubaker can't make Uncanny X-Men as good as Daredevil.
White Tiger (Marvel)
Writers: Tamora Pierce, Timothy Liebe
Penciler: Phil Briones
Straight out of the pages of Daredevil comes the new White Tiger!!! Angela del Toro has to be one of my favorite recent comic book characters and I love her miniseries. I hope to see more of Angela in the future and can't wait until the next 2 issues of her mini.
Wisdom (Marvel MAX)
Writer: Paul Cornell
Penciler: Trevor Hairsine
This miniseries isn't that great and is rather confusing. The writing isn't very good... not just the story but the actual way it's presented. I'm only reading it mostly becoz it's about Pete Wisdom.
Wolverine: Origins (Marvel)
Writer: Daniel Way
Artist: Steve Dillon
I hate Wolverine and I hate this series... I must be *really* bored and desperate to read this. It's had a few decent guests but I still hate Wolverine.
X-23: Target X (Marvel)
Writers: Craig Kyle, Chris Yost
Artists: Mike Choi, Sonia Oback
It's funny how I hate Wolverine but I love X-23. And as I stated above under New X-Men, I love the writing team of Craig Kyle and Chris Yost. This series bridges the gap between the X-23 miniseries and NYX and I love how it's presented: Captain America and Matt Murdock (Daredevil) interagating her and her telling them what happened. Kinda like how the X-23 miniseries wasn't actually told by X-23 but by her mother Sarah Kinney.
X-Factor (Marvel)
Writer: Peter David
Artist: Pablo Raimondi
I'm telling ya, this has got to be one of my favorite current comic books. I love what PAD is doing. The biggest complaint I've heard is that the last few issues have focused too much on Madrox... I don't care!!! I love Jamie. Another reason I really like the comic is I really like Monet St. Croix. When Generation X was cancelled I was so afraid all the characters would disappeared. I'm so glad she got a role on X-Factor. I really like PAD's characterization. Also, the 'previously on...' pages are hilarious too... it's funny before you ever get to the story!!!
X-Men
Writer: Mike Carey
Penciler: Humberto Ramos
X-Men's been kinda hit or miss lately, some issues are really good and some aren't that great. Definately readable though the art is rather mediocre. I heard Chris Bachalo will be penciling again, I look forward to that, I like Chris Bachalo.
Writer: Joss Whedon
Artist: John Cassady
